An introspective personal narrative assignment - and a creative one! Students will have a memory book to keep for years afterwards.
The assignment is to create a book. Chapters, titles, and topics to write about, based on students' lives and memories. Requires self-reflection and drawing on personal experiences. Also required as part of the book are: title page, dedication page, epilogue, and cover.
Teacher can adjust length, chapter quantity, chapter content, etc. because it is a Word document. While designed to last 6-8 school days, it can easily be make into a larger project and done over a 2-3 week period. Easily altered to fit teacher's desired time frame. Kids enjoy the project as it provides lots of personal freedom. No wrong answers.

Grades above 9 will definitely need changes in vocabulary. However, most of the assignment content can remain the same even for upper grades.
