CHAPTER QUESTIONS >The directions are always (or extremely similar wording): "Responses must be in complete sentences, on lined paper, and stapled to the assignment. Responses must be thoughtful and complete to receive full credit. Two complete sentences, minimum, for each question are required for full credit. More than two sentences may be required to answer questions thoughtfully!" >Occasionally there are 'no incorrect answer' questions. >82 questions total >There's an average of 10 questions per assignment. 2. CONFLICT A highly detailed graphic organizer to use during chapter 1-7 to gather information and answer questions about conflict. Not a quickie graphic organizer, this one requires some real work. Includes an example entry.
3. PILOT/NARRATOR A highly detailed graphic organizer to use during chapter 1-7 to gather information and answer questions about the character of the pilot (who is also the narrator). Not a quickie graphic organizer, this one requires some real work. Includes an example entry.
4. PRINCE A highly detailed graphic organizer to use during chapter 1-7 to gather information and answer questions about the character of the prince. Not a quickie graphic organizer, this one requires some real work. Includes an example entry.
5. SERIOUS MATTERS A graphic organizer to use at the end of chapter 7 to reflect on what are "serious matters" to a child/young person vs. an adult. Includes an example entry. (I find students have fun with this one.
20 WRITING ASSIGNMENTS 20 different activities of very different lengths and styles. Such as: biopoem poem, responses to illustrations, partner activities, creative writing, final formal essay, and more.
ABOUT THE FINAL ESSAY: >The largest writing assignment is a formal essay. Six essay topics are provided. Each topic includes many questions to encourage delving deeper into the topic. >An at-level, high school writer's assignment. Grade 10 at the lowest, unless students are advanced. >A post-reading assignment designed for use when novel is completed, and, when the many meanings, messages, and symbols in the novel have been discussed. >Six different essay topics for students to select from.
